Who: The Tulare Astronomical Association (TAA)

What: The TAA will hold a class in Basic Astronomy. The class is geared toward the beginning and novice astronomer who wishes to gain a better understanding of the night sky. The class will include lectures on motions of the night sky, how the solar system was formed, evolution of the stars and galaxies, and expansion of the universe. If you’ve ever wanted to know more about astronomy and our universe, this class is for you!

When: Consecutive Wednesday nights beginning February 18 through March 25, 2015 (except for Wednesday March 4th which is reserved for the regular TAA meeting). The classes begin at 7:00 pm and end at 9:00 pm. Parking is available on the observatory grounds.

Where: Arthur Pursell Observatory and Astrophysics Center (APO)
9242 Avenue 184
Tulare, California, 93274

Directions: From SR99 north and south, take Avenue 184 exit (south of Tulare). Proceed west on Avenue 184 to the observatory (about 1/8 mile past Road 96). Look for APO OBSERVATORY sign at the entry to the site.

Cost: $50/person (existing TAA members are free). You must “book” the event on the TAA website at www.tulareastro.org if you plan to attend. Fees may be paid by check or cash at the first class meeting. NOTE: If you join the TAA via the website before Feb, 15th, 2015 your membership will entitle you to attend the class free as a member.

Other: This class is best suited to individuals between the ages of adolescent to senior. Any young children MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please bring a sweater or jacket to stay warm. Refreshments will not be served, so you may wish to eat before you come. White-light flashlights will not be allowed on the observing grounds during the class as it makes it difficult to adapt to dark conditions.
