50th Anniversary Star Party

The Tulare Astronomical Association is going to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Arthur Purcell Observatory. The Observatory was opened in August of 1967. Since it’s opening, the observatory has been sharing the wonders of the universe with the people of Tulare County.

The best solar eclipse of the century will happen on Monday, August 21, 2017. This is the first total eclipse of the Sun visible from the contiguous United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) since February 26, 1979. TAA Summer Schedule

The TAA will be taking a summer break. The Arthur Pursell Observatory will be used by members for there own observing this summer. Why? Two reasons. 1.  Many members will be out of town on the weekends. 2. The sun prevents acceptable observing until 9:30 or 10:00 PM.

 Our next general meeting will be held at the Arthur Pursell Observatory Wednesday, September 13th at 7:30 PM.

TAA Donates Telescope for the “Library Telescope Program”

Back in December, the Tulare Astronomy Association donated a telescope to the Tulare County Library. The TAA won the scope in a national contest sponsored by the Astronomical League . The AL has a program called the Library Telescope Program. In short, the AL asks telescope manufactures to donate telescopes and eyepieces for the program.  Astronomy clubs across the United States are encouraged to participate in the Library Telescope Program and to file an application.… Read the rest
